Dear CSA members,

I wanted to take a moment today to thank you for your support of our Prince George-Norwich Meadows Farm CSA. We know that CSAs aren’t necessarily the easiest way to eat, but we are thankful that you too share in the value of high-quality, fresh and locally grown foods, the genuine experience of supporting local farms and being a part of our CSA community. With other models like Good Eggs and Farmigo, real farm CSAs can sometimes be overlooked— but those are not true farm CSAs. They may perhaps become important drivers of sales for local producers and that’s great, but nothing can beat the unique connection and trust that the real farm CSA model engenders. Our CSA products are locally grown and the profit goes directly back to our farmer. There are both hardships and joys of growing food. For us, it’s important to recognize and support local farming practices so that they can have continued success and we can continue to promote healthy eating and wellness. We hope that your experience with our CSA continues to be a great one. Thank you for your support and commitment to our CSA!

CSA is about more than a box of veggies. It’s a way to make the world a better place. For you. For a family farm. For New Yorkers struggling to make ends meet.

Just Food is the nonprofit organization that supported the launch of our Prince George-Norwich Meadows Farm CSA and more than 100 others throughout the city. Without their help, our low-income tenants would not have been able to afford a Summer CSA share and reap the benefits of healthy, farm-fresh produce.  Just Food needs our help. The organization is raising money for Just Share, an initiative that lowers the price of CSA membership by matching payments made with food stamp (SNAP) benefits.

Their goal is to raise $10,000 by May 7th to ensure that 65 families in need can join their neighborhood CSA.

Dear Summer members (new, old and prospective),

Just a little update from the Prince George-Norwich Meadows Farm CSA... We've been getting questions about when we will be starting the Summer CSA delivery season.  The cold weather this Spring has undoubtedly had a direct effect on when the Summer CSA deliveries will begin.  (There was snow in the air the past three days in Norwich, NY)!  In the past few years, summer deliveries have started the 2nd or 3rd week of June.  The farm can usually make a decision before the end of May.  The farm has informed us that they hope to begin the 3rd week in June, unless we are pleasantly surprised to start a week earlier (2nd week in June).  However, we ask that everyone be prepared for the small possibility of starting a bit later in June.  The farm will have a better idea as the month of May progresses.

Also, a reminder that thefinal day to sign-up for the Summer CSA is Wednesday, May 15th. Please tell friends, family, neighbors and co-workers who may be interested in joining!  Thank you and have a fabulous day!

Hello Winter CSA members!

Looking forward to seeing everyone today for our 6th distribution! (4:30-7:30pm at the Prince George Lobby - 14 East 28th Street).   Check out our Chinese Radish tip sheet for various tips and a recipe for Chinese radishes.  And don't forget to read this month's issue of the newsletter on our newsletter page.  See you later today!

General CSA Reminders:

-Our final and 7th distribution of the Winter 2014-2015 season is next month on Tuesday, May 12th.

-Please be mindful about weighing your CSA produce properly at the distributions. Do NOT exceed the maximum weight limit posted on the produce labels. See below for more details.

Tips for weighing your CSA produce:

There has been some issues with produce being weighed improperly, thus deducting from other people's paid CSA shares.  Please do not exceed the weight limit posted on the produce labels.  You may go up to the labeled amount (the maximum weight), but never exceed that amount.  With produce, often times it can be tricky to get the exact amount (e.g. exactly 1 lb of potatoes).  However, the rule-of-thumb is to use that as the maximum weight. Ideally, one would get exactly 1 lb but in some cases you might get slightly less, so as to not detract from another person's share.
